Bakery: Bakery Plant Recycling

At Publix, we’re constantly looking for ways to minimize our impact on the environment. In addition to our other recycling initiatives, we’re working with a facility that accepts hard-to-recycle materials and turns them into fuel cubes that are a cleaner alternative to coal. Our Bakery Plant sends them soiled cardboard, paper, and plastic that otherwise would have gone to the landfill. From our Bakery Plant in Lakeland alone, this process allowed us to divert 1,261 tons of material from the landfill in 2021.
