Often times, packaging is excessive in comparison to the actual product in the package. By continuing to reduce packaging excess, we become
increasingly more efficient, allowing us to ship and store more products while reducing the amount of resources needed to
operate our supply chain.
We’ve implemented several changes to packaging and have additional projects underway. We began by examining the material that is, for the
most part, the industry standard used for shipping seafood. Our first focus was to reduce the amount of Styrofoam and hard-to-recycle cardboard (waxed corrugated)
that was being used in transporting product to our stores. We eliminated the vast majority by utilizing returnable plastic totes and a
recyclable air baffle system for our seafood shipments. With all but a few exceptions, any cardboard that is used in shipping is now recyclable.
