Environmental Partners

To assist with our efforts on the complex issues of seafood sustainability, we work alongside companies that provide us with knowledge, guidance and expertise. Ocean Trust, Ocean Conservancy and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership have helped us measure our progress, make informed decisions and support our efforts.

Ocean Trust is an award-wining conservation foundation building science, conservation and industry partnerships for the sustainability of particular species. In addition, they provide us with fishery assessment data.

Ocean Conservancy is best known as the founder of the International Coastal Cleanup which occurs every September. From its beginnings in 1985, this grassroots cleanup effort focuses on cleaning up the beaches and coastlines around the world. In addition, they focus on fisheries conservation and restoration efforts directly with the fishermen and through lobbying efforts that impact fishery reform. Ocean Conservancy works with us on two fronts. They lead several projects that work directly with fishermen to improve their methods of harvest. These fishermen learn to become more sustainable by reducing fuel usage by-catch, and by improving their practices that may further negatively impact the environment.

The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) provides us with strategic and technical guidance. They work closely with seafood suppliers and producers in the development of Fishery and Aquaculture Improvement Partnerships. These partnerships focus on building consensus around specific improvements in policies, marine conservation measures, fishing, and fish-farming practices. They support us with detailed fisher assessments, source-of-supply sustainability evaluations, a comprehensive system that will measure our progress and improvements in sustainable sourcing over time.
