Publix Super Markets, Inc. joined efforts with FNIEC (Florida Newspaper in Education Coordinators) and other Newspaper in Education Programs throughout the southeast portion of the United States to bring a sustainability curriculum to sixth grade students in public, private and home schools within the Publix footprint. This free NIE tabloid was designed to show students how to become responsible members of the planet, and to respect all of the resources that it has to offer. As they learned to be environmentally conscious, students were also given an opportunity to express their own ideas in a simple design contest. The winning eco-friendly design will be printed on a reusable bag that will be distributed to every 6th grade teacher whose class participated in this program. Thank you to all the teachers and students who participated in this program. Our congratulations to the state finalists and grand prize winner!
