At Publix, we're dedicated to giving our best to our customers and doing what's best for our environment. In 2007, we conducted our first greenhouse gas inventory - a measurement of activities that generate greenhouse gasses. We use the inventory to measure emissions across our operations, from the electricity we use to run our stores to the fuel we use to run our fleet. As our company continues to grow, we continue to measure our carbon footprint annually, keeping track of the amount of CO2 we emit per square foot of building space company-wide. These annual measurements have shown a significant decrease in lowering our carbon emissions per square foot. Between 2007 and 2009 we saw a reduction of about 43,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
